Embedding Centers
Purpose: Embeds tissue cassettes with molten wax, then its cold plate cools wax in preparation for microtome sectioning.
Potential problems: Not heating, temperature not correct, no power, not cooling, wax solidified.
Waterbath
Purpose: Used to float the tissue specimen prior to pick up with slide.
Potential problems: Not heating, temperature not correct, no power.
Slide Oven
Purpose: Used to melt wax from slides while leaving the tissue sample behind.
Potential problems: Not heating, temperature not correct, no power.
Centrifuge
Purpose: Spins down fluids to extract sample.
Potential problems: Speed not correct, will not spin, lid will not open, no power.
Paratrimmer
Purpose: Melts wax from the edge of the cassette after embedding.
Potential problems: Not heating, no power.
Cassette Printer
Purpose: Prints identification information on tissue cassettes.
Potential problems: Not printing, poor print quality, jamming, no power.
Slide Printer
Purpose: Prints identification information on slides.
Potential problems: Not printing, poor print quality, jamming, no power.
Linistainers
Purpose: Uses a continuous feed system for simple staining procedures of tissue slides.
Potential problems: No power, chain not moving, not draining, not heating.
Paraffin Dispensers/ Paraffin Pot
Purpose: Used to melt bulk wax for use on tissue processors and embedding centers.
Potential problems: No power, not heating.
